Mike Huber Sworn In As New Casper City Council Member
The newest member of the Casper City Council was sworn in during a brief ceremony Tuesday.
Mike Huber received the oath of office from Municipal Court Judge Robert Hand, Jr., before a special meeting of the Council.
After the oath, Huber took his place among the other council members to act on the brief agenda. He introduced family members and said he'd long considered joining the Council when he was a Natrona County Circuit Court judge.
Last week, City Council selected him among 12 candidates who applied for the vacancy left by Amanda Huckabay, who resigned earlier this month for professional and personal reasons.
The first item on the agenda was setting April 3 as the date for the first reading of the proposed Mobile Vendor Parking Permit ordinance to manage the growing number of food trucks on city streets.
While food trucks have been at events at the Tate Pump House and during the Eclipse, the presence of food trucks at Frontier Brewing on East Second Street downtown beginning in October raised concerns, according to the meeting agenda. "Cities are having to ensure that food trucks are being managed appropriately both in terms of their compliance with public health regulations, and also in regards to their impacts on traffic and the local restaurant industry."
For several months, city staff have been meeting with food truck vendors and those affected by their presence on downtown streets, according to the agenda. Several versions of the permit have been drafted, and city staff believe a middle ground has been reached.
The second item on the agenda was the approval of a lease between the city and Cowboy Smokehouse, LLC, which will operate the 19th Hole Restaurant at the Municipal Golf Course for three years.
The resolution passed with no discussion, although K2 Radio earlier Tuesday reported a series of financial problems of the business and its owner.
