A 23-year-old Casper man could face up to 59 years in prison after allegedly leading authorities on a high-speed chase in a stolen car and exchanging gunfire with them.

According to an affidavit, Dominique Childers was driving 115 mph when a Wyoming trooper tried to stop him and his girlfriend, Chasity Jacobs, on Interstate 25 north of Cheyenne around 6 p.m. Friday.

Childers failed to pull over, and the trooper pursued him into Cheyenne where police became lead in the chase.  The pursuit ended around 6:30 p.m. after Childers crashed into the steel fence around the Cheyenne VA Medical Center.

During the chase, Childers reportedly fired at the trooper three separate times and shot at a police officer, who returned fire, striking Childers twice.  No officers were injured during the incident.

Childers was found to have a felony arrest warrant from Sterling, Colorado and Jacobs was found to have an arrest warrant from Natrona County.  Troopers also found 4.6 grams of methamphetamine on Childers, according to an affidavit.

Agents say Childers told them that he "freaked out" because he had drugs on him and warrants.  He also told agents that Jacobs was innocent.

Childers has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery-threatens with weapon, felony theft, two counts of felony property destruction, felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor property destruction, reckless endangering-conduct and eluding.

Childers is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $100,000 cash bond.  His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 16 at 10 a.m.
