I'm sure you've been scrolling through social media and get stopped by a 'FAIL' moment. Someone wipes out, falls down, gets hurt doing something dumb, there are lots of them.

That happened to me recently, I was watching snowmobiling videos on Instagram when one popped up that made me stop and watch it over and over and over. The video showed a guy, @tyler__williams2003 from Instagram, taking off on a snowmobile...I mean actually taking off.

After hitting the throttle, the front end of the snowmobile lifted off the ground.

At one point, the nose was pointing straight up at the sky.

That's when the riders began to lose control and eventually ended up flying over the handle bars and rolling in the snow ahead of the sled.

The good news is, the rider, Tyler Williams, was ok.

Definitely a close call, even for a seasoned rider, the strangest things can happen. That being said, it's always a good idea to be safe.

Wyoming State Parks Trails Program gives a great list of safety tips for when you're out riding and preparing to go.

Use good judgement, common sense and knowing your limits are extremely important things to remember when heading out on a snowmobiling trip.

Be Prepared

  • Know where you're going.
  • Be aware of the weather conditions
  • Check your equipment and safety gear before heading out
  • Know how your machine works, how to fix it and have extra parts
  • Have food, extra clothing and water
  • Have a map, know how to read it and know your directions
  • It's recommended to not snowmobile alone, but you should always let someone know where you're going, even being with someone else
  • Carrying snowshoes incase you have to hoof it out
  • Carry a shovel on your sled
  • Stay on the trail
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Drive sensibly and safely

It's always a good idea to wear a helmet and goggles when riding a snowmobile.
