You can help honor Wyoming's veterans by helping to lay thousands of wreaths at their graves on Saturday, December 15th in Casper, part of the national Wreaths Across America event.

"The mission for Wreaths Across American is to remember the fallen, honor those who have served and their families, and teach the value of freedom," said Kathy Thomas with Wreaths Across America and the Natrona County Republican Women. "I just feel it's the least we can do for the one percent who raise their hand for the 99 percent of us they may never meet, and yet would be willing to possibly lay down their life if necessary."

"The saying is if you don't remember the veteran's name, that veteran is forgotten forever," said Richard Parks of the Patriot Guard Riders. "Our job is to let people know that we're here to support our veterans, keep that name alive for generations down, for grandchildren and great-grandchildren to remember this veteran's sacrifice to this country for our freedoms."

This year, the goal is to lay some 4,000 wreaths including those at the Veteran's Cemetery, the 650 veterans buried in a designated area at Highland Park, and more for family members to take to their veterans buried elsewhere.

If you'd like to come help lay the wreaths, you can meet at the Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery in Evansville at 10:00am Saturday, December 15th. The wreath-laying will begin after a short ceremony. The other wreath-laying will take place at Casper's Highland Cemetery at noon, and Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm.

Last year, Wreaths Across America and the national network of volunteers laid more than 1,400,000 memorial wreaths at nearly 1,400 locations in the United States and beyond.
