A grass fire west of Laramie by Wyoming Highway 230 has been contained and extinguished by the Laramie Fire Department and the Big Laramie Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire, which occurred near the Hansen Livestock Teaching Arena, began at around 10 a.m., and fire crews had the fire under control at around noon.

Kim Howard of the Big Laramie Volunteer Fire Department said luckily the departments were able to extinguish the fire before the wind picked up. Howard said the fire began on the west side of the highway and jumped the road before spreading on the eastern side.

“It just goes to show how dry it is, even with all that rain,” Howard said.
