Gillette Man Changes Murder Plea to Guilty
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — A 46-year-old Wyoming man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his wife last year at their Gillette home.
The Gillette News Record reports that Timothy Welch's guilty plea last week was part of an agreement in which prosecutors and his attorney recommend he spend 30 to 50 years in prison.
Welch told District Judge Michael N. "Nick" Deegan that he and his wife, Kayleen, got into an argument last Aug. 22 when he came home from a dentist appointment.
He says he hit her three times in the face.
When deputies arrived in response to a call from the couple's 11-year-old daughter, they found the 41-year-old woman unresponsive.
Deegan doesn't have to abide by the agreement when he sentences Welch on Aug. 14.
