A man in Converse County died early today in a shooting involving a sheriff's deputy, according to a news release from Sheriff Clint Becker.

The incident happened at 12:23 a.m., Becker wrote.

The deputy apparently was not injured in the incident, but the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.

The unidentified suspect was a white middle-aged male.

The news release did not state where the shooting occurred, what lead up to the incident or whether other people were involved in the incident.

Becker declined to comment because he said the case has been turned over to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

This marks the third time in less than two weeks that someone died in an armed encounter with law enforcement officers in the state.

On July 12, Casper police were serving a search warrant on Christopher Benton in the 1600 block of Kit Carson. Benton, 27, presented lethal force and an officer shot him.

On Thursday, Cheyenne police responded to an incident at 215 Stinson Ave. shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday on a domestic violence call. Saige Hack, 23, was the only person who lived at the address. As officers approached the home, Hack opened the front door and shot at police with a pistol. Police returned fire, and Hack went inside the residence. Officers later found Hack dead inside.

The DCI  is conducting the investigations of these two cases.
