The Casper Police Department is advising the public about a new scam that is going on.

Police say residents could receive a phone call from someone claiming they are a representative from a lottery company.

The caller advises that someone has won and that the winner of the lottery need to purchase a green dot card, which is a one-hundred dollar prepaid credit card for shipping fees.

The caller then calls back and requests the pin from the green dot card and requests more money from the winner of the lottery to cover more fees.

The phone number is long distance and is unable to track.

Police want to remind residents, that if you did not enter a lottery, then you didn't win.

Avoid giving out personal information such as bank account or credit card information.

If it's a local business requesting information, go to the business and verify the request in person.

If you feel you are a victim of a scam, do not hesitate to call your local law enforcement.
