Casper Man Arrested for Drunken Driving, Taking Girlfriend’s Baby
Police arrested a man early Thursday morning after he allegedly -- while being "super drunk" -- took his girlfriend's baby and drove off in a pickup truck following a fight with two other men.
Bradley James Davis, 33, was booked into jail on charges of driving while under the influence with child endangerment, interference and disturbing the peace.
Charging documents say at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, an officer was sent to an address on Preserve Circle for a report of three men fighting. As the officer was en route, dispatch said the aggressor was a large man who got into a silver truck and drove towards Missouri Street.
The officer arrived and didn't see a silver truck, but did encounter a woman who was crying hysterically in front of the building.
She ran over to the officer's patrol car and said her boyfriend, Davis, was "super drunk and he took my... baby and drove off in a silver truck," according to the officer's affidavit. The woman also reportedly said, "Please help me get my baby."
As the officer spoke with the woman, she screamed, "He's right there!"
The officer got out of his car and saw a silver ford pickup pulling up behind his patrol car. He approached the truck and found Davis in the driver's seat.
Davis got out, and the officer immediately smelled alcohol. In the rear of the pickup, the officer saw, was an unsecured car seat with a baby inside. The baby was not belted into the car seat.
The officer let the child's mother get the baby while another officer checked on the child's welfare.
Davis reportedly started to yell, "Don't touch my f------ baby! You have no right to touch my f------ baby!" His shouts reportedly woke up several neighbors.
Davis agreed to perform field sobriety tests, saying, "I haven't had a drink in months." He allegedly performed poorly, refusing to give a sample for a breathalyzer or a blood test.
The officer took Davis to jail.
