Casper Man Arrested After Reportedly Watching People at Gym
A Casper man has been arrested on alcohol- and traffic-related charges after he reportedly sat outside a gym and used binoculars to watch people.
Roberto Moreno, 58, was booked into jail on charges of having an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, driving while under suspension and driving without an ignition interlock device.
Charging papers say at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, Casper police officers responded to Prana Fitness on CY Avenue for a report of a suspicious person. It was reported that a man was sitting in a truck out in front of the business and using binoculars to watch the young girls' dance team.
The man had reportedly been seen at the location multiple times over the past couple of weeks.
An officer arrived and found a Dodge pickup in a parking lot, facing the front of Prana Fitness. The officer noted that the vehicle's position would give the driver a view of what appeared to be a dance class, which was being held in the eastern portion of the gym.
As the officer approached the vehicle, the man in the driver's seat allegedly tried to put an open can of Bud Light on the floor board.
When asked, the man -- Moreno -- said he was waiting for his girlfriend to finish up at the gym. The officer asked if Moreno's girlfriend would corroborate his story, and Moreno allegedly admitted that he had lied, and his girlfriend was not at the gym.
Moreno reportedly told the officer that he enjoyed watching people in the gym, but denied watching the dance class. Moreno allegedly said he "just liked watching people work out because he missed working out," the affidavit reads.
Moreno allegedly admitted to having consumed two beers. The officer noted Moreno's eyes were bloodshot and watery, and Moreno had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.
Police noted four opened Bud Light cans in the passenger seat, in addition to the can Moreno had allegedly tried to put on the floorboard as the first officer approached.
Police also found a pair of binoculars in the truck. Dispatch advised that Moreno's driver's license was suspended, and he was required to have an ignition interlock device on his vehicle. The vehicle reportedly was not equipped with such a device.
The man who had called police told officers that Moreno had been in the parking lot for a little while that evening, and employees reportedly said Moreno frequented the parking lot.
When asked again how much alcohol he had consumed, Moreno allegedly admitted to having had six beers. Moreno said he could not afford an ignition interlock device for his pickup truck.
Moreno was arrested and taken to jail.
Police note that Moreno's license was suspended from September 2015 to September 2018. Moreno was required to have an ignition interlock device on his vehicle until December 2103.
