It's that time again, to grab the kids and your fishing gear and join in the the 23rd Annual Kids’ Fishing Day at Harry Yesness Pond. It happens this Saturday, June 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and chances are good you'll catch something, as Yesness Pond will be stocked with more than 2,000 catchable-sized trout along with channel catfish in advance of the event.

"It's absolutely fantastic to see the look on these kids' faces, and it really brings together the community," says Janet Milek with Wyoming Game and Fish. It doesn't really matter if you know how to fish or not, there will be plenty of folks around to help the kids learn. "We really enjoy working with the kids," says volunteer Scott Novotny with Grey Reef Trout Unlimited, "and it's really neat to see kids who maybe never caught a fish before maybe catch their first fish."

If you can, organizers ask you bring your own gear and bait but if you can't, the North Platte Walleyes Unlimited Club will have a limited number of fishing poles and Sportsman’s Warehouse and Rocky Mountain Discount Sports will supply bait. Milek says you should dress appropriately for the weather and suggests you bring along sunscreen, extra water, and maybe even your lunch and have a picnic.

Kids Fishing Day events are held in conjunction with the statewide Free Fishing Day, which is also June 2nd.
