Bison Charges, Injures Girl Near Old Faithful on Monday
A bull bison charged and tossed a 9-year-old girl into the air near Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park Monday.
The girl, who is from Odessa, Florida, was with a group of roughly 50 people who were within 10 feet of the bison for at least 20 minutes, park officials said in an email.
After the girl was thrown into the air, her parents took her to the Old Faithful Lodge where she was assessed and treated by park emergency medical providers. She was then taken to and released from Old Faithful Clinic.
Park officials say no citations have been issued and the incident is still under investigation.
"Wildlife in Yellowstone National Park are wild. When an animal is near a trail, boardwalk, parking lot or in a developed area, give it space," the press release says. "Stay 25 yards away from all large animals."
