Mills Council Cancels Wednesday Budget Meeting
A scheduled Mills Town Council meeting to discuss budget issues was cancelled Tuesday.
An announcement on the town's official Facebook page said the meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, was cancelled and will be rescheduled.
The cancellation was posted to Facebook at 4:37 p.m., 23 minutes before the town's listed end of business hours.
Mills Mayor Seth Coleman said Tuesday night that the council wasn't prepared to go forward with the budget meeting. It will be rescheduled at a later time.
An agenda for Wednesday's meeting was not posted on the town website as of 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Since the town announced that it was laying off most of its fire department, town council meetings have been standing room only as concerned citizens have voiced their displeasure with the decision.
Prior to the announcement, Mills officials apparently didn't hold public meetings regarding funding the fire department.
The decision to lay off the fire department was made in the midst of funding concerns. Little to no public notice was given of the vote, which was planned during a work session briefly before a regularly scheduled council meeting in May.
