1 Dead, 1 Injured in Head-On Crash on Icy Wyoming Road
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that left one driver dead and another injured.
The crash happened around 4:51 p.m. yesterday, Jan. 11, at milepost 87.7 on Wyoming 789 between Lander and Hudson.
According to a fatality crash summary, 65-year-old Wyoming resident Cassaundra Vanvleet was driving north when she lost control of her pickup due to the icy road conditions, slid into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with an SUV.
Vanvleet was wearing her seat belt but died from her injuries.
The driver of the SUV, who became trapped after their SUV rolled over in the barrow ditch, was also injured in the crash, but the patrol did not say to what extent.
This is the second fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2023 compared to one in 2022, seven in 2021, two in 2020, and seven in 2019 to date.
