One of the best divers in Class 4A in 2019 is defending state champion Gabriella Haigler from Natrona County High School.

Only a junior, she won the diving championship by 61 points as a sophomore in 2018 and looks to defend her title at the state meet later this week.

Haigler finished fifth as a freshman in 2017 before rising to the top last year. Remarkably, she’s accomplished those two feats without a diving coach. The star for the Fillies now has a full-time diving instructor, as she goes for her second consecutive title.

WyoPreps’ David Settle recently caught up with Haigler and Natrona County head coach Jessica Snell at the conference championship meet in the video above. They discussed what Gabriella’s done, pretty much on her own during her first two years, her season this year, what it’s like now having a diving coach, what she looks forward to at the state meet, and more.

Haigler is rated first in the state for an 11-dive format with 410.45 points and is third in a six-dive format.

The Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9, in Gillette at the Campbell County Aquatics Center.
