CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission has declined to make any immediate changes regarding use of crossbows during the state's archery season.

Wardens and biologists in the Wyoming Game and Fish Department compiled a report recently that recommended not allowing crossbows during the special archery season.

But the Casper Star-Tribune reports that some commission members expressed support for the continued use of crossbows, noting that many crossbow users are elderly women and youth. Others said more public comment was needed before the commission could make a decision.

The debate over crossbows during archery season is a fierce one in Wyoming. Some hunters believe crossbows are too similar to rifles. Others say it's a way to get women and youth into hunting.
