An investigation into alleged dog fighting in the Rock Springs and Green River areas hasn't generated any results, according to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell.

The sheriff had ordered an investigation last month after reports of dog fighting in the area were found on social media. Those who posted the reports were contacted by investigators and interviewed.

''Based on what we turned up during the interviews, the information trends towards reports going back three years, but nothing recent or current," the sheriff said.

But even though the investigation did not yield any results, Sheriff Lowell said his office will continue to be alert to the possibility of dog fighting in Sweetwater County.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Sheriff's Office through the Sweetwater Combined Communications Center at [307] 875-1400.

Dog fighting is a felony in every state, including Wyoming, where it carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a $5,000 fine or both.
