A California man was arrested Wednesday morning after deputies stopped him for a traffic violation and allegedly found some 38 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

Since late October, the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office says its deputies have seized 688 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value totaling some $3.5 million.

Brandon C. Lewin, 32, faces a pair of felony drug charges. Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell says in a statement that Lewin was stopped by a K9 team for a traffic violation on I-80 east of Rock Springs, and the marijuana was found during a search of Lewin's Toyota Camry.

Lewin's initial appearance in Circuit Court was set for Friday.

Lowell said that threats made against law enforcement dog handlers and their canine partners in different parts of the country have led to a Sheriff’s Office policy of not publicizing the names K9 team members involved in drug cases.
