Weather Service Confirms Tornado Northeast of Douglas
The National Weather Service, with the help of law enforcement confirmed a tornado was on the ground southeast of Bill on Highway 59 just before 8 p.m.
"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is
likely."
Ping pong-ball sized hail also was confirmed.
To repeat, a tornado is on the ground.
TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
The tornado warning replaces a severe thunderstorm warning that was in effect, according to the NWS Riverton office.
At 7:43 p.m., weather spotters reported a funnel cloud, and a severe thundertom capable of producing a tornado was located near Bill, or 35 miles north of Douglas.
The thunderstorm was moving southeast at 45 mph.
