Weather and Skill Bringing Wildfires Under Control

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Two wildfires burning in Wyoming are being corralled thanks to the work of firefighters and cool, wet weather.

A wildfire that has burned about 350 acres in the Shoshone National Forest northwest of Dubois is 90 percent contained. Nearly 200 firefighters have been working the fire this week.

In southeast Wyoming, a prescribed burn that got out of hand in northern Albany County is 70 percent contained after burning about one square mile. Officials say they expect the fire to be fully contained by Sunday.

The change in weather with much cooler temperatures and rain and snow is helping.

The National Weather Service says the Bighorn, Wind River and Absaroka mountain ranges could see significant snowfall above 8,500 feet Friday night and Saturday.
