The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Casper Field Office announced today that Muddy Mountain Road will open on May 25.

Assistant Field Manager, Rhen Etzelmiller noted,

“The public should be aware that some areas are still wet and muddy due to melting snow, and recent rain, and should use caution when traveling on the mountain, there was a significant amount of vandalism that included removing windows from a comfort station and removing the pedestal as well. This occurred within the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area (EEA) over the course of the winter and early spring. This type of damage costs time and resources to repair and has resulted in the delay of the opening of the road for this year. If anyone has any information about the vandalism, please report it to the Casper Field Office,”

Muddy Mountain road is closed on an annual basis for public safety and resource protection. The closure normally runs from the end of November through the beginning of June.

Muddy Mountain Road is the primary access route to the EEA, which includes two campgrounds and numerous recreation trails.
