Two Arrested Following Armed Standoff in Southwest Wyoming
Two men were arrested Tuesday on felony drug and aggravated burglary charges following a brief armed standoff in Rock Springs.
According to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell, officers of a Sheriff's Narcotics and Arrest Group (SNAAG) team and special agents of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation were executing a high-risk search warrant in a drug case when they encountered 18-year-old Paul David May.
May allegedly armed himself with a 9mm pistol, but ultimately gave up the gun and was arrested.
The gun, Lowell said in a statement, turned out to be stolen. May was charged with aggravated burglary and drug offenses.
Michael E. Caron, 20, was also arrested in connection with the case. He was booked into jail for alleged felony possession of methamphetamine.
No one was injured during the course of the arrests.
As of Wednesday evening, both men remained in custody at the Sweetwater County Detention Center pending their initial court hearings.
