Last month, a state biologist said it was too early to say whether the recovery zone grizzly deaths were alarming or even a trend.

More than 4 million people visit the 3,400-square-mile park each year.

Four hunters were attacked by grizzly bears during a 10-day period in September in the Gravelly Mountains, including one in the Eureka Basin area.

Grizzlies are protected as a threatened species across the Lower 48 states.

Two bears were hit by a train and three were hit on a nearby highway.

All said they supported removing grizzlies from protected status under the Endangered Species Act.

Investigators did find evidence the bear was injured.

Two New Mexico hunters were mauled on Sept. 16 and a Washington state man was badly injured later that day.

The same bear was previously trapped on June 30 at the site of cattle depredation in the same area.

Wildlife officials say three bears have also died in automobile collisions, two of them in Montana.
