Snowmobiler Dies in Avalanche in Northwest Wyoming
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A snowmobiler has died after getting buried in an avalanche in northwest Wyoming.
The Teton County Sheriff's Office says the victim was a 24-year-old man but has not released his name.
Lt. Matt Carr says search and rescue officials were notified at 4:10 p.m. Sunday about the avalanche.
Carr says the man's riding partners saw their friend get buried. They could see part of his snowmobile but they couldn't find him.
One of the friends stayed to dig while the other one rode about 30 minutes to where he had cell service and called for help.
Carr says the men weren't carrying any avalanche gear.
