Small Fire Continues to Burn at Wyoming Gas Plant
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A small fire continues to burn at a western Wyoming natural gas processing plant idled by an explosion since last week.
A spokesman for Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams Partners said Monday the fire is much smaller now and workers at this point are just letting it burn off remaining gases.
Nobody was hurt in Wednesday's explosion, which prompted the evacuation of nearby Opal (oh-PAL'), population 95. Residents were allowed back home Thursday.
Williams Partners spokesman George Angerbauer says workers continue to assess the damage. He says it remains unknown when processing will resume.
A company press release Monday said four of the facility's five processing units remain undamaged. The undamaged units can handle 1.1 billion cubic feet a day, or the entire volume of gas available for processing at the plant.
