A Cheyenne elementary school was placed on secure perimeter for roughly 20 minutes Monday afternoon as police chased after a wanted Cheyenne man.

Laramie County School District 1 spokeswoman Mary Quast says Alta Vista Elementary School was placed into a secure perimeter from 1:21 p.m. to 1:44 p.m.

"This protocol is enacted when activity in the vicinity of a facility calls for heightened security with non-eminent danger," Quast said in a release.

"Throughout this time, students and staff remained safe," she added.

Police spokesman Office Kevin Malatesta says they're still looking for the suspect, 27-year-old John Bothwell.

Bothell is a 5-foot-10 white male weighing 150 pounds with light reddish hair and a scruffy beard.  He was last seen wearing a brown shirt.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police dispatch at (307) 637-6525.
