Poaching Near Gillette Investigated
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Wildlife officials are investigating after a trophy-size mule deer and buck antelope were illegally killed south of Gillette.
Dustin Kirsch, a warden with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, tells the Associated Press the animals were shot sometime between the evening of Sept. 27 and the early morning hours of Sept. 28.
The heads were removed from both animals and all the meat was left to waste. The poaching happened before the opening of the big-game rifle season in Campbell County on Oct. 1.
Kirsch says the mule deer and antelope were killed on private land near Clarkelen Road.
