JERUSALEM (AP) — A truce proposal for the conflict in Gaza has already unraveled.

Israel had agreed to the cease-fire plan put forward by Egypt, but the Islamic militant group Hamas rejected it. And after Gaza militants fired scores of rockets at Israel, the Israelis responded today with more than a dozen air strikes.

Hamas doesn't trust the current rulers of Egypt, who deposed a government that had been friendly to Hamas.

Since the outbreak of fighting a week ago, more than 190 Palestinians have been killed in hundreds of air strikes, while millions of Israelis have been threatened by rocket fire.
