No Charges In Shootout Near Glendo State Park
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — No charges will be filed in connection with a fatal shootout near Glendo State Park in September.
A motorist stopped by a park ranger and a Platte County sheriff's deputy was shot and killed. Park ranger Phil Martindale, a former Scottsbluff police sergeant, was shot in the chest.
The Platte County sheriff's office released the results of investigations by the Platte County attorney's office and the Carbon County attorney's office on Tuesday.
Authorities say the driver, 57-year-old Jerry Jochim, refused to get out of his vehicle, fled the scene and drove to a rural house on the eastern side of Glendo Reservoir. A struggle started when Martindale and the deputy tried to arrest him.
Tests confirmed that Jochim was drunk, with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal driving limit.
