The man who allegedly drove a pickup and hit a bicyclist on May 29 has been charged with three misdemeanors, according to court records.

Michael Carpenter, 25, is charged with failure to stop after an accident involving death or injuries, driving with a suspended license, and reckless driving, according to the affidavit filed with Natrona County Circuit Court on Thursday.

Carpenter made his initial appearance in circuit court Friday and pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

Circuit Court Judge Brian Christensen set his bond at $2,000.

He allegedly was driving a pickup on May 29 when he struck the cyclist at North Beverly and Yellowstone streets and then fled on foot, according to court records.

Police Lt. Chris Hadlock said Friday the cyclist is recovering from his injuries.

He was taken into custody two weeks later for shoplifting and trespassing at the east-side Walmart. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of shoplifting, criminal trespass, use of a controlled substance and battery. He was sentenced to two years in jail,

During police interviews, two passengers in the pickup identified him as the driver.

However, Carpenter adamantly denied he was driving.
