There's a whole lotta shuffling going on at the Wyoming Medical Center after the opening of the new West Tower.

The obstetrics unit soon will be moving from its former location to the third floor in the West Tower, as will the cafeteria, hospital CEO Vickie Diamond said Tuesday.

The fourth floor of the old tower has been having hot water problems, so the fourth floor and fifth floor services will be moved to the sixth floor. Renovation crews then will be converting all rooms to private rooms, Diamond said.

The entire private room project will be complete by March, she said.

Meanwhile, construction crews have begun laying the foundations for the West Side Clinic at Talon and American Way roads just east of Wyoming Boulevard. The hospital is still recruiting physicians for that clinic, Diamond said.

On the other side of town, groups of physicians and staff are meeting to draft a proposal for that proposed clinic, and will be presenting that to the WMC's board of directors, she said.

At the main hospital campus, the smoke in an elevator shaft Sunday evening was determined to come from a belt in the elevator shaft. There was no open flame and no risk to patients, Diamond said.
