CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) Historian David McCullough told Wyoming business leaders that he's optimistic about the future of the country.

McCullough's books on American history have won the highest honors, including the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. He gave the keynote speech Tuesday at the Gov. Matt Mead's business forum in Cheyenne.

McCullough stressed the importance of education and urged continued emphasis on teaching children history and the humanities. He made the point that no computer ever has had an idea of its own.

McCullough urged the audience of business and political leaders from around the state never to doubt that the country is on the right path. He said all the qualities that have enabled the country to overcome hard times in the past are still present.
