Significant reconstruction work at the intersection of CY Avenue and Poplar Street is underway.

“I’m not afraid to say it – this one is going to be a pain,” WYDOT spokesperson Jeff Goetz said. “But, I think it’s something that’s necessary, it’s been a long time coming, and I think it’s going to be really good and a lot more efficient once we get the project done.”

Goetz said traffic flow will be affected as crews work on the intersection.

“During construction, what people will see is one lane in either direction, but it will be moved to different sides of the road,” Goetz said.

Goetz said work will continue at the intersection until October.

Work will resume next spring and should be finished by May 2015.

The project will include the widening of both roads to accommodate an additional left-turn lane on CY and right-turn lanes on Poplar.

Pavement, curb and gutter and sidewalk work will also occur at the intersection.

New sewer manholes, storm drains and other enhancements will also be installed near the intersection, Goetz said.

According to a WYDOT release, all businesses in the affected area will remain open during reconstruction.
