The Wyoming Cowboys tried to play the New Mexico Lobos game and got burned. The Lobos shot 62 percent in a 119-114 victory in Laramie Tuesday night.

Six Lobos scored in double figures led by Sam Logwood and Justin Simons off the bench with 24 points apiece. Neither of them played in the first meeting last month in Albuquerque.

Wyoming (17-11, 8-7) seemed okay with playing New Mexico’s up-tempo style and running with the Lobos. The Cowboys had four in double figures led by Louis Adams’ career-high 31 points. Justin James had 23, Hayden Dalton 21 and Alexander Aka Gorski added 12.

The first half featured six lead changes and five ties. James scored the first five points of the second half and gave the Pokes a 58-55 lead. That was the last time UW led.

The Lobos answered with a 12-0 run in 1:29. Antino Jackson made a three, followed by seven straight from Simons. Logwood punctuated the burst with a big-time slam. That made it 67-58 New Mexico with 16:47 left.

The Cowboys got back within three points on three different occasions, but failed to get closer. The lead grew to double figures for the Lobos at the 8:40 mark. UW finally got it back to single digits with 1:04 left on a pair of James free throws.

The game also featured 64 fouls and 81 free throw attempts. New Mexico missed just enough down the stretch to keep Wyoming around.

The Pokes shot 58 percent from the field and went 13-23, 56.5 percent, from deep. They were 27-38, 71 percent, from the line. UW also had 18 turnovers.

New Mexico (14-14, 9-6) shot 13-27 from deep (48%). They finished 32-43 at the stripe. The Lobos also had a 34-28 edge on the glass, but finished with 20 turnovers.

It’s the most points allowed by Wyoming in the history of the Arena-Auditorium.

The Cowboys return to action Saturday at Fresno State. Game time is 8 p.m., Mountain Time.
