The new-look Kelly Walsh football team came up a little bit short in Laramie as the Trojans dropped a 24-17 decision to the Plainsmen on Friday night. KW drew first blood as Phoenix Buske plunged in from the 1-yard line to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead. Laramie responded in the 2nd quarter as Isaac Sell found Janson Adair for 19 yards and a TD to even the game at 7. Later in the 2nd quarter, Garrett Dodd hooked up with Adair for a touchdown connection that covered 7 yards to give the Plainsmen a 14-7 advantage. Kelly Walsh answered that TD with one of their own as Trenton Walker found Caleb Cockrum for the score right before the halftime intermission so it was even at 14. In the 3rd quarter, Laramie was the only team that scored thanks to a 40-yard field goal but the Plainsmen put another TD on the board as Dodd ran it in from 18 yards out to make it 24-14. KW added a field goal to cut the gap to 24-17 but the on-sides kick was recovered by Laramie and that was the ball game. Kelly Walsh will host Cheyenne East this week while Laramie travels to Rock Springs.
