A Casper man is now admitting he intentionally started a fire.

Forty-seven year old Jefferey Oliver has changed his plea to guilty to one charge of first degree arson.

Investigators say he  started a fire in an apartment on the 3-hundred block of North Lincoln Street in mid-April.

Four adults and two children were in the apartment at the time, but they were all able to escape.

Investigators later determined the fire was started in a refrigerator.

Oliver later admitted to police he wanted his girlfriend to pay more attention to him, so he started the fire and then went back to bed, with intentions of putting out the blaze to save everyone.

But the fire got out of control and Oliver’s plan to play hero, went up in flames.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors will seek no more than a six year prison sentence, and he will have to pay an estimated thirty nine thousand dollars in restitution.

Oliver will be sentenced at a later date.
