JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — St. John's Medical Center in Jackson is buying property south of town for additional affordable housing for employees.

The hospital will pay $1.35 million for the parcel in the town of Alpine, about 36 miles from Jackson.

St. John's plans to build about 80 units.

The hospital now owns 65 housing units for staff.

St. John's CEO Paul Beaupre says rising property costs in Jackson will make it difficult for new employees to afford housing. He says additional units on the new property will make it easier to hire and keep staff for the next decade or longer.

St. John's officials say they're working on setting up transportation between the new location and the hospital.
