"The report indicated that a fire was in the kitchen area of the residence and the homeowner was trapped inside and becoming overwhelmed by smoke," Chief Andrew Dykshorn said in a release.

"BC1 (Battalion Chief) arrived on scene at approximately 12:35 p.m. and observed moderate dark smoke coming from the structure," Dykshorn added. "The front door was locked, and BC1 forced entry and was able to hear the homeowner calling for help inside the smoke-filled home."

Trapped Homeowner Rescued From Smoke-Filled Home, Taken to Hospital

Dykshorn says Engine 5 arrived shortly thereafter and firefighters were able to quickly locate the homeowner, get them out of the home, and transfer them to awaiting American Medical Response personnel.

"They were transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained in the fire," said Dykshorn.

Dykshorn says subsequent arriving crews established a water supply and initiated an interior fire attack in the kitchen area, and firefighters were able to locate and rescue the homeowner's cat.
