Most highway billboards are a waste. The words are too small or too many. We never get most of them.

A clever billboard designer understands that he only gets a glance from folks driving by. So he better get to the point, and it better be visible and memorable.

Here are 5 Wyoming billboards that once seen can never be unseen, or forgotten.

1). How do you tell people they need to worry about an awkward health problem? Be direct.

2). Is it hard to explain how impressive something is? Use some imagination with a clever visual.

3). Adult humor is okay. As long as the kids don't understand why you are laughing.

4). Have an important message that no one wants to hear? Sneak it in.

5). Not sure what PETA was trying to say here, but now I want a Chicken Sandwich.

Newer billboards include:

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office put up billboards in Denver, Colorado, with smiling deputies saying “Work in Wyoming, where breaking the law is still illegal, and law enforcement is funded.”

"Don't Text and Fish": Warns drivers against distracted driving. Odd, but it works.

"Venezuela Ahead, Be Prepared": Positioned by Clipper Properties LLC on I-25 for drivers crossing the border from Wyoming to Colorado.

Most billboards are useless. A person has just a couple of seconds to get the message while driving. A message has to be quick, obvious, and to the point. Being funny fast counts. That's why these billboards mentioned here are remembered long after they are taken down.

Chugwater's Hysterical Pie Eating Contest.

One of Wyoming's smallest towns added a new event. A PIE EATING CONTEST.

The rules are simple:

Not hands allowed.

Eat as much as you can before time is up.

The results are hysterical.
