The First Day of Spring Is —- TODAY! Friday March 20th
This winter has been a little different for the Western states. A high-pressure system twisted the jet stream so that it all went right around us but pummeled the eastern half of the nation.
So, when does spring really begin?
RIGHT NOW!
In 2026, the spring equinox lands on Friday, March 20, at 10:46 a.m. ET. This moment marks the first day of astronomical spring.
Meteorologists, however, consider March 1 the start of meteorological spring, which runs through the end of May. Meteorological seasons divide the year into three-month blocks. But what do they know with all their science stuff?
For those of us with me in Wyoming, spring begins Fri, Mar 20, 2026, 8:46 AM
Northern Hemisphere · Mountain Time.
Astronomical spring ends with the summer solstice, which in 2026 occurs on Sunday, June 21.
But we all know that for a state like Wyoming, we can still have a last winter blast at the oddest time. So do not put away those coats just yet. Keep them nearby. You also know that the moment you trade your snow blower for the lawn mower, it's going to snow.
Spring is usually when our part of the nation gets most of its wet weather. We really need it. The last thing anyone wants is an overly dry spring and summer, which would lead to a nasty fire season. So - COME ON RAIN.
If you are a Wyoming citizen, you may now head to your local county office and pick up your tourist tags for tourist season. They've put on a lot of weight over the winter, so hunting should be great.
