LARAMIE -- Caden Powell is on the move.

Wyoming's 6-foot-10 forward announced Thursday he is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, becoming the second Cowboy this week to leave the program.

Jacob Theodosiou, a freshman guard from Ontario, Canada, is also seeking a new home after just one season in Laramie.

Powell is coming off a sophomore season that saw the Waco, Texas product average just 5.4 points and 4.6 rebounds an outing. He made 31 starts this year. A purely sentimental move on senior night, allowing head coach Jeff Linder to insert Kenny Foster into the starting five, was the only time Powell came off the bench for the 15-17 Cowboys.

Powell's best outing came early in the season when he netted 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a loss to Saint Louis at the Myrtle Beach Invite. He again hit double figures the next day, scoring 10 in a 67-60 victory over the College of Charleston. Powell capped that tournament with a 13-point performance in a 78-71 win over Furman.

He only hit double digits in the scoring department one other time and was held to two points or less nine times, including an opening round loss to Fresno State last week in the Mountain West Tournament.

Powell was labeled a three-star recruit out of Midway High School, according to multiple scouting websites. He received interest from Texas A&M. Official offers came from Hofstra, Drexel, North Texas, Princeton and UNC Wilmington.

A McDonald's All-American nominee, Powell was listed as the 39th best center in the nation by 247sports.com. That site also named him the 24th best recruit in the State of Texas.

Appearing in 28 games as a true freshman at Wyoming, Powell showed promise late in the campaign, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Not known for his offensive prowess -- he earned the title of 11-6A Defensive MVP as a senior in high school -- Powell started finding a rhythm in conference play, averaging nearly four points a game over his final nine outings. He ended the season netting less than two points per game.

Linder and Co. now have two available scholarships heading into the offseason. They could tack on at least two more if Brendan Wenzel and Foster don't return for their final season of eligibility.

The transfer portal is open until May 1.

Division-I programs are allowed up to 13 full-ride players on the roster. Here are Wyoming's scholarship players as of March 21, 2024:

Nearly 30 NFL franchises were on hand March 19 in Laramie to watch 10 Wyoming football players go through drills during the school's annual pro day. Defensive standouts Easton Gibbs, Jakorey Hawkins, Cole Godbout and Deron Harrell took part in the combine-style workout. So did offensive stars Andrew Peasley, Frank Crum, Ayir Asante, Colin O'Brien and Treyton Welch. NFL personnel also got a close look at Wyoming punter Clayton Stewart.
