Idle Uranium Mines Purchased, Expected To Produce in 3 Years
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A uranium company has purchased two mines that have been idle since the 1990s and has plans to start them up again.
Ur-Energy officials say production at the mines could begin in three years.
The Casper-based company announced this week it has finalized the purchase of the Shirley Basin and Lucky Mc uranium mines from Pathfinder Mining Corp. for $6.6 million.
The company expects to produce 1 million pounds of yellowcake a year from the two mines located in Carbon and Fremont counties.
According to the Associated Press, Ur-Energy opened its first facility last summer. The company recently made its first shipment of yellowcake from the Lost Creek in situ mine to a facility in Illinois.
