32-year-old Wyoming native Andy Sandness ended 10 years of regret and isolation at the Mayo Clinic when their first ever face transplant utterly changed his life.

Ten years ago, in a bout of depression, Andy put a rifle under his chin and pulled the trigger. The moment didn't end in death but in devastation to his face that was beyond the scope of normal plastic surgery to correct.

The team at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., conducted a marathon 50-plus hour procedure that resulted in Andy being able to finally live a normal life again.

The video explains how they did it.
