In anticipation of the hand off of wolf management from federal to state control, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department seeks comment on proposed hunting regulations.

At a meeting this Wednesday, April 4th at 7pm at the regional office in Casper, wildlife officials will review the plan and discuss proposed rules.

Brian Olsen, Casper Regional Wildlife Supervisor, says at this time, however, grey wolves remain protected.

"This proposal for hunting seasons, and the grey wolf management plan to be taken over by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department is just the beginning process. Hopefully by this fall the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will have that control under their realm."

Olsen suggests central Wyoming will not be greatly impacted. He recalls one confirmed wolf siting in Natrona County for 2011.

Final adoption of the plan and regulations happens April 25 and 26, also in Casper. That meeting, Olsen says will likely be well attended.

Public comments regarding Chapter 21, Gray Wolf Management and Chapter 47, Gray Wolf Hunting Seasons, will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on April 23, 2012. Written comments may be submitted to: Wyoming Game and Fish Department, ATTN: Wolf Regulation Comments, 3030 Energy Lane, Casper, WY 82604. Comments will also be accepted at the meeting in Casper, April 25-26.
