Phase one of construction at the Kelly Walsh Staffelino Activities Complex is complete, the fields are open and getting lots of use.

"Right now I think community usage outweighs school usage. I think there are more groups and individuals down there using the field then there are classes and teams from Kelly Walsh. It's a lot of fun to watch."

Kelly Walsh Principal, Brad Diller, updated the Natrona County School Board this week about renewed fundraising efforts to meet their commitment to contribute $700,000 toward the complex. That commitment came as part of an understanding with the school board when they agreed to put up $2.7 million for its construction.

Diller says, thanks to $150,000 from the McMurry Foundation along with a $50,000 grant from the Natrona County Recreation Joint Powers Board they are on the way to fulfilling that commitment. Diller says the fundraising committee's goal is to raise the final $467,000 by next June.

Phase 2 of construction goes to bid soon, with improvements planned to the high school track and stadium, tennis courts and a possible warm up track.
