Longtime Wyoming Athletics fan Maury Brown stepped up Monday to show his support for a Cowboy basketball team going through some difficult adversity.

Brown, from Cheyenne, Wyo., purchased 2,000 complimentary tickets to Wednesday’s (Jan. 23, 2019) men’s basketball game versus San Jose State. The Mountain West Conference game starts at 7 p.m.

Fans can stop by the UW Athletics Ticket office Tuesday and again Wednesday up until tip-off to get these complimentary tickets. Anyone is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman released a statement through the school.

“This is the most challenging season I have ever witnessed as an athletics director. Numerous injuries to key players have forced a few remaining veterans and our young players to have to shoulder the load. Our players and coaches need all the support we can give them to show how much we appreciate their efforts.”

Burman went on to say, “Thanks go to Maury Brown of Cheyenne for sponsoring the 2,000 comp tickets. I also want to thank all of our fans for their support. Wednesday will be an opportunity to thank the young men in our basketball program for battling through a difficult situation. We invite all who care about UW Athletics to come join us.”

Cowboys’ head coach Allen Edwards started his visit with the media Tuesday by acknowledging Maury Brown.

“Just want to thank Maury Brown for his continued support with the complimentary tickets to our fan base, which I thought was very thoughtful, especially, you know, with what these guys have had to deal with throughout the year, and still come with the right attitude to work. To find it in his heart to do that, to get support in the building, and the guys are no different than any other human being that affects them, so to get people in there will be a good thing.”

Senior Justin James echoed the comments of his head coach.

“I just want to give a shout out to Maury Brown. His support of buying the 2,000 tickets, that just shows how much love we get from our Wyoming fans, and how much support they give us, so I just want to say thank you to him (Maury), and everything that he’s done for me, personally, and also this university, and everybody come out tonight (Wednesday), and let’s have a good game.”
