A Casper man is heading to prison after admitting to breaking into his mother-in-law’s apartment with an axe.

Frederico Gomez Junior was sentenced to three-to-five years at the Wyoming State Penitentiary, after pleading guilty to one charge of aggravated assault.

Police say in May, Gomez’s mother-in-law told officers that Gomez Junior showed up at her apartment wanting to see his wife.

At first he was beating and kicking the front door, threatening to break it in.

Prosecutors say Gomez Junior then went to the back of the building, climbed onto the balcony and entered the apartment with an axe.

He left the apartment empty handed, and was arrested a short time later after police found the axe.
