Evansville Woman Charged With Vehicle Theft
An Evansville woman who wanted to leave Wyoming stole a former roommate's vehicle, but didn't get very far and was arrested Tuesday, according to a police affidavit filed with Natrona County Circuit Court.
Chasity Jacobs, 18, charged with one count of felony theft, which is punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment.
The case began Tuesday when officers were called to a mobile home at 229 Lathrop in Evansville where the vehicle was parked.
The vehicle's owner reported the theft on Sunday, and she suspected her previous roommate, Jacobs, may have stolen it. The owner asked Jacobs about the theft, but she denied it, according to the affidavit.
Officers found Jacobs at the trailer park, brought her to the Casper Police station where she agreed to talk about the incident.
She admitted using methamphetamine for a long time, and wanted to leave Casper but didn't have a way to do so. On Sunday, she went to a local restaurant and saw the vehicle.
When she lived with the owner, the owner would let her drive the vehicle and knew the owner left the keys in it. She spent the next couple of days driving around Casper including Walmart, and then was about to leave and drive to Kentucky, according to the affidavit.
Jacobs told police that no one suspected the vehicle was stolen; didn't tell anyone including her boyfriend; removed two children's car seats; and took clothing, credit cards and identification belonging to the owner and stored them in a trailer.
Officers searched the trailer, found Jacobs' purse with the vehicle owner's cards, as well as her stolen clothing.
Police then arrested Jacobs and booked her into the Natrona County Detention Center.
