Black Dog Animal Rescue will promote black and mostly black dogs for adoption between May 1 and May 31, 2014, as part of the Back in Black promotion sponsored by national animal welfare leader Best Friends Animal Society®. More than 175 local animal rescue groups and municipal shelters across the country are showcasing adorable, lovable cats, dogs, kittens and puppies for adoption.

As part of the promotion, BDAR will be offering $50.00 off adoption fees for all black or mostly black dogs over 5 months old. As always BDAR adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, including rabies, microchip with registration, and a free first veterinary exam.

Britney Wallesch, Executive Director said,

“Shelters and rescue groups across the country all have stories of how their black animals get overlooked for adoption. Darker colored pets tend to stay longer in shelters and are the last to be chosen, Certainly the plight of black dogs is near and dear to our hearts, and since we focus our rescue efforts on those dogs who need help the most, taking time out to showcase these black beauties is especially rewarding.”

The community is invited to get involved with the Back in Black promotion by stopping by BDAR’s weekly Saturday adoption drives at PetCo in Cheyenne and meeting adoptable black dogs, visiting the website, www.bdar.org, and sharing adoption listings with their contacts, and by posting photos and stories of their black animals to the Black Dog Animal Rescue Facebook page. Last year through the Back in Black adoption event, more than 3,000 pets found homes nationwide.
