The man and woman taken into custody after a chase from Glenrock to Douglas last week apparently went on a nation-wide shopping spree with other people's money, Converse County Undersheriff Justin Scott said Thursday.

"We have found evidence that is linking our suspects to other states that potentially have victims of thefts or burglaries," Scott said.

Friday night, law enforcement agencies were asked to watch for a couple in a white sport utility vehicle with Colorado plates.

The couple allegedly were involved in an auto burglary in Park County and a stolen credit card was used in Hot Springs County. A firearm allegedly was brandished during those crimes.

A Glenrock Police Department officer saw a vehicle matching the description and attempted a traffic stop on southbound Interstate 25.

The SUV didn't stop and drove south past Douglas.

It stopped after spike strips punctured the SUV's tires.

SUV driver Richard Fountaine, 27, and passenger Jennifer Fountaine, 34, ran away but were quickly caught.

Converse County Sheriff’s Office Investigators found the Fountaines did more than cause trouble in Park and Hot Springs counties.

"It appears that the couple went on, not just a multi-county crime spree, but a multi-state crime spree," Scott said.

"Investigators are still tracking down victims and working with other law enforcement agencies from other states including Montana, Washington, California, New Mexico, Missouri, and Texas," he said.

The couple is currently being held in Douglas on local charges of Interference with a peace officer & eluding. Other local charges are pending upon completion of the investigation.
